National Intern Give Back Day

Throughout the month of July all summer interns at Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s participated in the 3rd Annual Nationwide Intern Give Back Days. Over 300 interns from programs in store management, buying/planning, product development, and marketing volunteered over 500 hours of service across the country to various organizations.

From volunteering at food pantries to participating in a youth basketball camp, Macy’s Summer Interns learned first-hand about one of Macy’s most exciting brand values – “Give Back.”

Our 90 NYC area interns spent the day giving back to our communities. Whether it was spending the day with children at the Association to Benefit Children, organizing the warehouses at Housing Works & Materials for the Arts, or spreading the word about the upcoming Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure race in Central Park, our interns exemplified what it means to give back!

The Midwest Interns volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House, which provides a home away from home for families of seriously ill children. They also helped prepare lodging for families whose children were being treated in the local hospitals.

The South Central Interns volunteered at the Houston Food Bank, which provides food and other products to more that 400 hunger relief agencies in southeast Texas. They also bagged rice and packed boxes for families in need.

At the Southwest Summit, the interns volunteered at the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank where they sorted food to be distributed to smaller food banks and soup kitchens.

In the Northwest, the interns volunteered at the Alameda County Food Bank and Project Open Hand. They did a variety of things including: making trail mix, stocking shelves in a in-house grocery store for people suffering from HIV and AIDS, and packaging meals to be delivered in the San Francisco Bay Area.

On the eastern coast, the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, & Southeast Interns participated in a variety of “Give Back” events including volunteering at Housing Works in NYC, assisting with Choo Smith’s Summer Basketball Camp in Baltimore, and working at Feeding South Florida Food Bank.

With the success of the National Intern Give Back Days, our goal is to continue to promote Macy’s value in giving back by helping local organizations and communities across the country. We look forward to even more successful volunteer efforts in 2013.
